AUTHENTIC  JAPANESE  KARATE

ABOUT

Students learn the beautiful discipline of Japanese Shito Ryu Karate one of the four main styles of mainland Japan. They gain fitness, focus, confidence and self-discipline while also learning self-defence and making friends. Advanced students may also study the Okinawan style of Shorin Ryu Karate. We host many activities during the year such as outdoor classes, forest walks, trips overseas and in the UK, demonstrations, a summer camp, competitions and many more. Registered students also get access to the best online learning resources (curriculums, videos, illustrations etc) in the Members Area of the website.

THE CURRICULUM
All skill levels are welcome! In this class we practice the original styles of karate preserved in the Shito Ryu system; naha-te, shuri-te, tomari-te and Fujien White Crane kung-fu. We have a much higher emphasis on self-defence over sport, and so we practice many self-defence applications of kata (bunkai & oyo kumite). Practice also includes supplementary exercises (hojo undo) such as kote kitae, kushin undo, kakie & shime.

Additionally, we work on old Okinawan methods of blocking and grappling in sui-di and tui-di and the generation of power through principles of tandem/hara, shinkuchi and muchimidi practiced in old-style karate. It is also common tradition for karate students to practice weaponry(kobudo). So, students can pursue ranks in kobudo if they so desire.

Our group runs seminars overseas and locally to supplement regular training, hosting senior Japanese and Okinawa karate masters. This class is mentored by Japanese karate master Sei Iwasa, 9th Dan - president of Seiken Shudo Kai cultural association and the most senior representative of the Japan Kenshukai Karate Association.

Members of the seniors class wanting extra training are free to take additional classes with the Mixed Ages Group (mentioned above).

Video Distance Learning Program

We also have a well-structured program of video lessons designed to supplement regular classes and promote personal training at home.
